All Members, Winter Residents, Family and Friends,

Greetings one and all!  Today is Tuesday and I trust you are healthy and taking whatever precautions needed to ensure you continued health.

So many are concerned about the germs from the coronavirus.  But here are current facts concerning the COVID-19 compared to the Flu!

COVID-19: Approximately 115,997 cases worldwide; 761 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 10, 2020.

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

COVID-19: Approximately 4,087 deaths reported worldwide; 27 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 10, 2020.

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Since this disease is caused by a new virus, people do not have immunity to it, and a vaccine may be many months away. Doctors and scientists are working on estimating the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be higher than that of most strains of the flu.   According to John’s Hopkins Med.

I am not downplaying the importance of taking precautions as we should be doing normally whether in Flu season or not.  We are supposedly living in a civilized and educated society.  So I encourage you to simply follow normal precautions and avoid unnecessary contact with others.

There has been a great deal of talk about “Communion Practices” and “Sharing of the Peace”.  But there is another one that very few people have voiced any opinion about.  That is the “Offering Plates”.  Virtually everyone touches the Offering Plates as they are passed up and down the rows.  We will discuss this at our Church Council meeting tonight and perhaps offer an alternative to the passing of the “Offering Plates”.

I just want to remind you that we do have communion on Sunday.  You will have the opportunity to have either the Common Cup or the Individual Cup it is your choice.  If we find that not that many are taking the common cup perhaps we will suspend it for a time until this scare has subsided.

Additionally no one has to shake hands during the sharing of the peace or when you greet people on Sunday mornings.  Greet one another with a kind word, a smile and don’t take it personally.  This past Sunday as people left the church I did a fist bump and maybe for the time being that is a good alternative to shaking hands.

Holy Week April 5th, 2020 with Palm Sunday marking the beginning of Holy Week.  This year we would like to commemorate Maundy/Holy Thursday by having a Christian Presentation of the Traditional Jewish Festival of the Passover Seder Meal.  It is called a “Haggadah”.  This take a lot of preparation and a meal is involved.  So we really need to know how many of you will be coming to this special service.  This would take the place of our traditional Maundy/Holy Thursday service in the evening.  We need to know soon and we would really encourage you to find the sign up sheet outside the church office Wednesday Evening or Sunday morning to sign up.  We need to have an approximate count for several reasons including where we can have this, how much food to order, how to prepare for communion.  Just please if you are planning on coming sign up.  Thank you!

Church Council will meet tonight at 6:00PM.

Wednesday Lenten Mid-Week activities begin at 5:00PM with soup and sandwich supper in the Trinity Life Center.  Church begins at 6:00PM.
