All Members, Winter Residents, Family and Friends,

          Greetings on this Monday afternoon!  Temperature is 92 Degrees outside at 12:26 PM and the feels like temperature is 105 degrees.  I have to admit that in the 35 years Susan and I have lived here in Florida these last few weeks have clearly been the most uncomfortable and yes even dangerous concerning the temperature.  I know that many of you throughout the country have also been experiencing hotter than normal temperatures and I sincerely pray that you are all taking the proper precautions to stay hydrated and cool during these days.

Susan just loaded up the back of her car with the food collection for the Middle School Students we do each month.  So many

different families are touched by your generosity.  We thank you for your continued support of this small effort to help those less fortunate have some food to eat on the weekends.

Do you have an announcement for the Sunday morning bulletin or the announcements before church?  Please get us the

information for the bulletin by Tuesday morning and for the announcements before church by Wednesday, Thursday at the latest.

          Our prayers are certainly with the people of Hawai where the devastating wildfire have destroyed so much and so many lives.  Over 100 deaths have been attributed to these fires which are now classified as the most devastating wildfires in the nations history.  I have been closely monitoring the LCMS Disaster Relief to see if they have initiated any fund raising to help the people affected by the wild fires.

          This morning on my way into the office I was listening to the Joy FM 91.7 and the Morning Cruise was broadcasting.  The Morning Cruise are three on air celebrities who host the morning show.  They were discussing the age-old question of the differences between; "Best if Used By/Before"; "Sell-By"; and “Expiration date”.  Many people have items in their cabinets, pantry or refrigerator that should be discarded.  Below I have provided you with three simple explanations of each;

  • A "Best if Used By/Before" date indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
  • A "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management. It is not a safety date.
  • “Expiration date”: Food should be thrown away after this date, as it may no longer be safe to eat.

This being the heart of hurricane season it may be good to go through those items that may have been around for some time and

need to be discarded and replaced because they have long since expired.  This is a good time to restock in case we do have a hurricane go through and you may not be able to get to the store for a couple of days.

Additionally, this is the reason why items should not be left in the “Trinity Life Center” refrigerator or in the refrigerator in the church kitchen as things are forgotten about.  Take it home and use it, or else someone may get sick if used beyond the expiration date.  Susan is always monitoring the items in the church kitchen so nothing gets accidentally used which is “expired”.

I have attached my sermon for Sunday on Romans 11.  It is a tough text but well worth investigating.

Have a great week and make it great for someone else as well!
