All Members, Winter Residents, Family and Friends,

Greeting on this post Tropical Storm Debby Monday afternoon!  Fortunately Highlands County really was not affected too badly from Debby!  Primarily it was just rain with some minor gusts, but nothing too serious.  The West Coast of Florida up to and through the pan-handle were more seriously affected with flooding, high winds, and power outages.  Most of the storm is already past us, we have some lingering cloudiness , but nothing serious.

The past several years Trinity served this community by providing snack and food items for the Lake Placid Middle School Dragon Den.  This is a food pantry in which staff will give needy Middle School youth a bag of breakfast, lunch and snack items that they could pre-pare/microwave themselves over the weekend. Many of the youth in our community depend on the free breakfasts and lunches which are provided each day at school, but when the weekend gets here, their parents might be working and they are left to fend for themselves.  The list below offer some suggestion of the types of food/snacks you might be able to pick up especially when they by one/get one at our local stored.

I trust that everyone is enjoying you summer months with family and friends.  Here in Florida the summer vacation is rapidly drawing to a close as school begins once again next Monday, August 12th, 2024.  You will be seeing the big yellow buses driving around again carrying students to and from school as well as to sporting events.  Please remember never to pass bus when you see the flashing lights and the stop sign out.  They are really cracking down on those that pass stopped school busses either picking up or dropping off students.  Be aware of the laws concerning passes busses and speed in the school zones.

Trinity Tots is pleased to inform you all that their classes are full for both the 3 year olds and the 4 year old classes.  We also have a full compliment of teachers with four returning to their positions they held last year.  Sarah Harris 3year old class; Amanda Hurm VPK Class; Desiree Escobar VPK Class; and Harriet Josleyn after school specialist.  Ali Pepper the Assistant Director will also be moving into the other 3 year old class.  And Oksana Hammonds will be with us as an Assistant Teacher floating from class to class to assist where needed.  And of course Susan Norris as the Director keeping all the moving parts moving smoothely.  This year I will be getting a little more involved as not only will I be sharing Biblical accounts and ideas with the students each month.  I will also be meeting with each student the week prior to the student being the student of the week as we pray for them on the coming Sunday, getting to know them and praying with them.  As a special treat they will receive a $5.00 gift card to the ice cream shop here in the Journal Plaza.  Additionally each family of the student I meet with will get and invitation to come to church that Sunday when their student is the student of the week.

Later this month Elder Mike Bardon is going to begin one and done Sunday morning Bible Studies on different topics each week.  Mike is putting the finishing touches on these and is excited about leading these discussions.  Additionally Pastor will be starting a “Book Club” and there is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board outside the church office.  The reason we are trying some different approaches is simple.  We want to see more of you involved in the study of the Scriptures.  We used to have Bible Studies that has 15 to 20 people on Sunday morning.  We have seen a tremendous decline in attendance.  So we are trying some different approaches.  Hope to see you involved!

My sermon for Sunday continuing in John Chapter 6 is attached.  We continue the Bread of Life discourse teaching this week as well.

One last thing!  Please remember that Kayla and Steve are getting married August 25th and we would like to shower them with good wishes and rememberances from the entire congregation.  Please send the cards here to the church or bring them in and Susan and I will take them with us when we go to the wedding.  Thank you for your efforts in this edeavor of love and support.
