Opening Hymn “My Jesus, I Love Thee” TOS #144
My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine,
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.
I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.
I’ll Love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.
In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.
Invocation
P In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
Opening Sentences
P Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
C Your faithfulness to the clouds.
L How precious is Your steadfast love, O God!
C The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
P They feast on the abundance of Your house,
C and You give them drink from the river of Your delights.
L For with You is the fountain of life;
C in Your light do we see light.
Confession and Absolution
P Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord.
C Amen.
L Humble yourselves before God, confess your sins to Him, and implore His forgiveness.
C Almighty God, merciful Father, we acknowledge our sinful nature and repent of our sins—those of which we are not aware and those we know full well. We do not love You and other people as we ought. We are often careless with Your creation and heedless in choosing the proper priorities of our lives. Yet it is our intent to say and do that which honors You. For the sake of Jesus grant us Your forgiveness so that, as Your redeemed people, we may be fit places for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and may serve You in time and in eternity.
P God be gracious to you and strengthen your faith. In the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it. Go in peace.
C Amen.
Introit
L Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.
M I love the Lord, because He has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
W Because He inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.
M The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish.
W Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”
C For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Amen.

Hymn of the Day "The Lamb" LSB #547
The Lamb, the Lamb,
O Father, where’s the sacrifice?
Faith sees, believes
God will provide the Lamb of price! (Chorus)
(Chorus) Worthy is the Lamb whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne!
The Lamb, the Lamb,
One perfect final offering.
The Lamb, the Lamb,
Let earth join heav’n His praise to sing. (Chorus)
The Lamb, the Lamb,
As wayward sheep their shepherd kill
So still, His will
On our behalf the Law to fill. (Chorus)
He sighs, He dies,
He takes my sin and wretchedness.
He lives, forgives,
He gives me His own righteousness. (Chorus)
He rose, He rose,
My heart with thanks now overflows.
His song prolong
Till ev’ry heart to Him belong. (Chorus)
Sermon
Apostles’ Creed
C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Offering
Prayer of the Church
L Let us pray for the whole people of God in Jesus Christ and for all people according to their needs. We pray for all Christians around the world that, as people united in faith, we may witness to the Good News that is ours in Christ Jesus, our Redeemer. We beseech You, O Lord,
C hear us for Your mercy’s sake.
P We pray for all nations of the earth, that in all places on earth there may be times of peace. We pray for people in lands where there has been upset and strife. And we pray for our own nation that it may know safety and the people may be joyful in their daily lives. We beseech You, O Lord,
C hear us for Your mercy’s sake.
L We pray for all those whose labor serves us, especially those in the military, our police personnel, medical workers, and all those whose efforts support the common good. We beseech You, O Lord,
C hear us for Your mercy’s sake.
P We pray for the special concerns on our hearts today, including health and family needs, bringing to You our joys, our sorrows, and our hopes, [including . . .]. We beseech You, O Lord,
C hear us for Your mercy’s sake.
L In this time of prayer, we remember all those who have completed their earthly journeys in faith and now rest from their labors. Lord, inspire us by the witness of the faithful from all generations that we may complete our earthly journeys with confidence in Your gracious promises as they did in their lifetimes. We beseech You, O Lord,
C hear us for Your mercy’s sake.
P Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
C Amen.
Benediction
P Go out into the world in peace, have courage, hold to what is good, return no person evil for evil, strengthen the fainthearted, support the weak, help the suffering, honor all people, love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. The almighty God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—bless you.
C Amen.
Closing Hymn "Beneath the Cross of Jesus"
Beneath the cross of Jesus
I long to take my stand;
The shadow of a mighty rock
Within a weary land,
A home within a wilderness,
A rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat
And burdens of the day.
Upon the cross of Jesus,
My eye at times can see
The very dying form of one
Who suffered there for me.
And from my contrite heart, with tears,
Two wonders I confess:
The wonder of His glorious love
And my unworthiness.
I take, O cross, your shadow
For my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than
The sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by,
To know no gain nor loss,
My sinful self my only shame,
My glory all, the cross.
